Spain's Carlos Sainz was taken to
hospital on Tuesday after crashing into a tree during
preparations for his world rally championship farewell in
Australia.
A spokesman for his world championship-winning Citroen team
told Reuters by telephone from Perth that the former champion
and co-driver Marc Marti were unhurt but had been taken to
hospital for a mandatory check-up.
"He was on the recce and he hit a tree," the spokesman said.
"It's a little story, there are no injuries but the stewards
asked him to go to hospital."
Sainz, 42, has announced his retirement after Sunday's
season-ending race. The Australian Rally will be the 195th world
championship start of a record-breaking career in which he has
won two world titles.
His victory in Argentina this year was the 26th of his 18-
year career, more than any other driver in the history of the
championship.

Mogen ze in het WK trouwens wel op snelheid verkennen dan? Anders mag hij zowiezo niet meedoen. Ik neem iig niet aan dat een rallycoureur als Sainz crasht op gewoon verkeersdeelnemerstempo...
