Mooie investering Skoda/Redbull :
Red Bull nears target-
Germany’s leading rally driver Armin Schwarz is thrilled by the response to Red Bull’s quest to find a new rally star after the first round of the competition.
Almost 500 people applied for a prize drive in this year’s European Rally Championship and around 360 were assessed driving VW Lupo cup cars in Austria near the A1 ring race track. Half were German and the other half were Austrian or Swiss. Some had no motorsport background of any kind.
“It was quite a number and quite an experience to see some of them driving a car!” Schwarz commented. “I think we have about 50 who are really good and 25 who are excellent.”
The next step is to test a smaller number in a Group N four-wheel-drive car in late March, then to assess the winner (who will drive on dirt as well as tarmac) in an Octavia World Rally Car. The aim is to back two drivers in European Championship rounds in the second half of the year, then in the World Championship in 2005.
